Storage solution
7 May 2026 – 28 May 2026
Executing large-scale rural water infrastructure across African terrains presents unique physical and logistical hurdles:
Forster Irrigation implemented practical, community-based and technical solutions to overcome the challenges and ensure successful project completion. To address the shortage of local labour, the project team introduced a five-day payment cycle for casual workers. This helped build trust with the local community, improve labour availability and accelerate trenching activities.
Due to the rocky and uneven terrain, the pipeline route was adjusted where possible to follow more suitable alignments with fewer rocky sections, reducing the difficulty of trenching and installation. For the extensive pipeline network, work was divided between the local community and the Forster Irrigation technical team. Local workers were responsible for pipeline pegging, while the technical team provided supervision, monitoring and technical guidance.
To minimise the impact of gullies around the working areas, Forster Irrigation undertook basic gully reclamation and stabilisation works at strategic locations. In addition, the project team engaged local communities to assist with rehabilitation of sections of the access roads, improving the movement of construction materials and equipment to the project site.
Through these interventions, Forster Irrigation was able to overcome the major logistical, terrain and community-related challenges and successfully deliver the water supply infrastructure within the project period.
